Larry has been married to Susan for over 38 years and together they have 3 sons: Clay, 35, Greg, 32, and Reese, 26. They also have two grandchildren via their oldest son, ages 1 and 3.

Reese Ishmael is an up-and-coming traveler, with nearly 30 countries under his belt. He completed his BA in Asian Studies at Whitman College and just recently completed his MAT in Elementary Education via the University of Northern Colorado. After completing his master’s degree he took a job offer at the International School of Dakar (Senegal), which he will start upon completing this African journey.

The two Ishmaels decided upon this joint motorcycle adventure a year ago, originally intending to travel from Cape Town to Cairo. Difficulties in logistics arose alongside political tensions up north, thus the two decided to reroute their journey to something more manageable. Currently they plan on driving through South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Malawi (again), Zambia, Namibia, and back to Cape Town in South Africa. A full map of their travels will be available soon, alongside their GPS live tracker. Please continue to visit the Bwana Ishmael website in order learn more.
